Every year the Rotary Club of Athens organizes an event where fun, fearless people gather together and jump into frigid Lake Chapman at Sandy Creek Park during winter time, the Plungefest. Although jumping into an icy lake in the middle of winter may seem absurd, it supports a really good cause in the Athens community. All the money raised through this fundraiser goes to the Mercy Health Center and Athens Health Network. Anyone can participate, either individually or in teams. This year Fowler Office Interiors sponsored one of the registered teams, the courageous Icy Hot Mercy Nurses team. The Mercy Christian Resource Health Center provides high quality health care and service for less privileged community members who are uninsured and make below the poverty line. These patients receive the opportunity to give back through volunteer work which generates a cycle of giving in our community. We are so proud of the work that the Mercy Health Center is doing and encourage you to volunteer with them and to be part of the next Plungefest in 2015.
